2008 CODE ORW Gran Prix On August 1st our Very own Trey Sommers and the All Ways Racing Crew loaded up his faithful class 9 car and crossed the border into Mexico for the ORW sponsored ( http://www.offroadwarehouse.com/ ) Code Jacume Off road race. The style of this race can only be described as being just like a Mini Laughlin race ( see the Score website for more info on the Laughlin race ). The races are divided up into heats by classes. The racing is very intense and very fast ! If you have any down time it can really affect your over all scoring of both heats of the day. Trey's first heat race was a good one for him. He got 3rd in the Heat. He finished 2 minutes behind the leader and 1 minute behind second. Seeing as he started 2nd from last in the whole group because Code does an inverted start for heat 1. But Trey went on to pass close to 20 cars ( 5/1600's, Sportsman's and 1/2-1600's ) He lost his Parker Pumper ( A Parker Pumper is a unit that's pumps fresh and filter air into your helmet ) so he ate a lot of dust, but he pushed on and got 3rd in class out of 8. His 2nd Heat race, he was running really strong, just a minute off the leader in class. He was only about 4 or 5 miles from the finish on the last lap, running in 2nd place, "pinned" in 4th, and in the heat of the moment he caught something with the rear wheel that sent him into ( unofficially ) a 5 or 6 time Roll over . It was witnessed by some spectators that said they counted 5 rolls by the time THEY got to a clear spot to see him , they said they heard him rolling before they saw him! Trey remembers the first 2 and not much after that. When Trey and the 9er came to rest, He noticed he was azz high, facing down on the race course and going the wrong way ! Fortunately he was off the course enough that he was safe of any oncoming traffic. While he managed to gather is rattled head and assess his condition, he realized he was ok. The spectators worked on trying to free him from the rock that he was perched on. It wasn't long before the All Ways Racing crew was on the job taking care of Trey and the beat up 9er. They got the 9 car off the rock, put on a spare tire/wheel and sent him in to salvage a finish.
Note: By this time the next group had started their race and he would have to contend with more traffic AND DUST. When it was all said and done, Trey ended up with a 2nd place finish for the weekend !!!!
Great Job Trey and Crew!!!

2008 SNORE MINT 400 Collins Motorsports and Team Mopar® Double Up with SNORE Mint 400 Triumph
Center Line, Mich. — Chuck Hovey and Brian Collins teamed up to drive the No. 12 Collins Motorsports Mopar Dodge Ram 1500 to the Unlimited Class and overall win at the SNORE Mint 400 near Jean, Nev., on Saturday, Mar. 29. The victory was the second straight overall win for the Mopar Dodge Ram following Collins’ solo triumph at the SCORE San Felipe 250 on Mar. 15. Hovey piloted the No. 12 Mopar Dodge Ram for the first three of four 95-mile laps, taking the lead on the third mile and handing off a 15 minute lead to teammate Collins on the fourth and final lap. The team needed every bit of that cushion, as a cut tire 15 miles from the finish imperiled an otherwise perfect outing. Collins Motorsports co-rider Erik Dickinson came through under pressure, rapidly changing the flat and sending the team to the winner’s circle at the first running of the famed Mint 400 in twenty years. “I thought this was a race in which I would never have the chance to win a trophy,” said Collins. “To have it return twenty years later and to win it in the Mopar Dodge is just phenomenal.” “I can’t even begin to describe what I’m feeling,” said the joyous Hovey, a newcomer to the Collins team. “To get to this level and then to win, it’s just amazing. It was a great day. Everything clicked.” The Team Mopar Collins Motorsports crew will attempt to maintain their win streak at the Tecate SCORE Baja 500, scheduled for May 30 – June 1 . 70 Years of Mopar Originally used in the 1920s, Mopar (a simple contraction of the words MOtor and PARts) was trademarked for a line of antifreeze products in 1937. It was also widely used as a moniker for the CMPC. The Mopar brand made its mark in the 1960s – the muscle car era. The Chrysler Corporation built race-ready Dodge and Plymouth “package cars” equipped with special high-performance parts. Mopar carried a line of “Special Parts” for super stock drag racers and developed its racing parts division called Mopar Performance Parts to enhance speed and handling for both road and racing use. Today, Chrysler LLC’s Global Service & Parts division is responsible for the manufacturing and distribution of nearly 250,000 authentic Mopar replacement parts, components and accessories for Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge vehicles sold around the world. To assure quality, reliability and durability, all Mopar parts and accessories are designed in strict adherence to Chrysler Engineering standards. |
